VOCI CHE RESISTONO AL VENTO - Voices that withstand the wind

female figures of the legends of the Dolomites

Jazz and myth intertwine, observe and chase each other in a soundscape from multiple musical contaminations. They become the voice of some women of the Dolomites, spread their cultural message and at the same time they invite everyone to meditate on their relationship with nature itself

The project won the Promozione Progetti Discografici dal Vivo 2022/ 2023 Contest promoted by Nuovo IMAIE.

Serena tried to restore the original image of eight women of tradition and myth who can still be a role model for today's girls.

The bright melodies dedicated to the kinder women meet those more mysterious of wizards and witches, sketching out different musical contexts where jazz improvisation dialogues with classical, latin music and more exotic sounds.

An encouragement to the listener to imagine him/herself on tour in the “pale rocks” meditating also on his/her own relationship with the mountain itself. He/ She will be overwhelmed by the cultural message these women tried to promote: a lesson of love and respect of life rhythms imposed by natural phenomena and mountain. As the legend of Tanna- a Queen of Winter and Ice- teaches, life should be accepted as it is: we can try to comprehend it but we can’t always turn it in our favour..

The album was released on march 1. 2023 by Emme Record Label and it's on all digital music platforms.

Serena's music in the wind gallery of Ciucioi's Garden

“From a musical point of view, Marchi's work enlightens her attention and curiosity towards the history of modern jazz: the transparent orchestral mixture of some pieces, such as “Samblana e le Ymèles” and “Merijana”, evoke the great conductor Gil Evans, but also Gerry Mulligan and Miles Davis in “Birth of the Cool”. “Tsicuta” and “Anguane” stage some rhythmic and harmonic articulations close to contemporary; “Ondina” develops a melody rich of mystery and expressive nuances. To these remarkable stimulus, reply the soloists brilliantly always deserving the attention.

A really praiseworthy debut work..”
